MILLENIUM – LES HOMMES QUI N’AIMAIENT PAS LES FEMMES – LA FILLE QUI REVAIT D’UN BIDON D’ESSENCE ET D’UNE ALLUMETTE – LA REINE DANS LE PALAIS DES COURANTS D’AIR
Millénium est une trilogie de romans policiers de l’écrivain suédois Stieg Larsson, publiée en Suède de juillet 2005 à mai 2007. Cette saga — titrée Millennium, dans les éditions en suédois et dans diverses autres langues (allemand, anglais, espagnol, etc.) — a obtenu un succès mondial1 : plus de vingt-six millions d’exemplaires vendus jusqu’en juillet 20102. Fin janvier 2011, le total des ventes s’élevait à cinquante millions d’exemplaires3.
Elle se compose de trois romans : Les Hommes qui n’aimaient pas les femmes, La Fille qui rêvait d’un bidon d’essence et d’une allumette et La Reine dans le palais des courants d’air. Un quatrième roman, (où Lisbeth Salander et sa soeur jumelle Camilla devaient revenir sur le devant de la scène), aurait dû lui aussi paraître, mais l’auteur est décédé en cours de rédaction.
LES HOMMES QUI N’AIMAIENT PAS LES FEMMES (2005)
Depuis quarante-quatre ans, Harriet Vanger, la nièce bien aimée de l’industriel Henrik Vanger a disparu. Il est persuadé qu’un membre de sa famille l’a assassinée. En parallèle, le célèbre journaliste Mikaël Blomkvist est condamné pour diffamation dans l’affaire Wennerstrom. Vanger convainc Blomkvist d’enquêter sur l’assassinat de Harriet. Au cours de son enquête, Mikaël Blomkvist va faire la rencontre d’une jeune fille atypique aux multiples talents, Lisbeth Salander, qui va l’aider à élucider le mystère.
LA FILLE QUI REVAIT D’UN BIDON D’ESSENCE ET D’UNE ALLUMETTE (2006)
Un an après la double affaire Vanger/Wennerstrom, nous retrouvons Lisbeth Salander et Mikaël Blomkvist dans une nouvelle histoire. Lisbeth est accusée d’un double homicide d’une rare violence à Stockholm, dont les victimes se trouvent être des connaissances de Blomkvist. Rapidement, elle se trouve accusée d’un troisième meurtre et un avis de recherche national est lancé. Lisbeth entame alors une longue cavale pour d’une part échapper à la police et d’autre part résoudre cette énigme : qui a tué ces gens et pourquoi ? Elle sera soutenue par son ami journaliste ainsi que par son ami et ancien employeur, Dragan Armanskij.
LA REINE DANS LE PALAIS DES COURANTS D’AIR (2007)
Ce troisième tome est la suite directe du précédent. Dans cet ultime volet, on retrouve Lisbeth Salander à l’hôpital, isolée et sous mandat d’arrêt. De son côté, Mikaël Blomkvist s’attaque à une nouvelle enquête de taille dans le but d’aider son amie : trouver qui, dans la police de sécurité (Säpo), tient à détruire une fois encore la vie de Lisbeth Salander. L’ennemi est colossal cette fois-ci, mais les soutiens envers Lisbeth plus nombreux aussi, saura-t-on enfin pourquoi et comment ?
MILLENIUM SERIES
The Millennium series consists of three bestselling and award-winning Swedish novels, written by Stieg Larsson (1954–2004). The two primary characters in the saga are Lisbeth Salander, a woman in her twenties with a photographic memory and poor social skills, and Mikael Blomkvist, an investigative journalist and publisher of a magazine called Millennium. Blomkvist, the character, has a history similar to Larsson, the author. Larsson planned the series as having ten installments, but due to his sudden death, only three were completed and published.
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (2005)
Journalist Mikael Blomkvist has been convicted of libelling billionaire industrialist Hans-Erik Wennerström and wants to escape the media attention. He is hired by industrial tycoon Henrik Vanger under the guise of writing a biography of Henrik and the Vanger family, while really investigating the 36 year old disappearance of Henrik’s niece Harriet. He teams up with the introverted and skilled computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.
THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE (2006)
Mikael Blomkvist is contacted by freelance journalist Dag Svensson in regards to having Millennium publish his expose on the sex trade in Sweden, which includes implicating government officials. Svensson and his girlfriend are murdered and the police believe Lisbeth Salander is the culprit. Blomkvist works to prove Salander’s innocence while also trying to finish Svensson’s piece and finds that both are connected.
THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS’NEST (2007)
Having learned of a secret group within the Swedish Security Service that has committed several constitutional violations against Lisbeth Salander, Mikael Blomkvist and a group of policemen from Swedish Security Service’s Constitutional Protection division try to learn who its members are and have Salander cleared of the murder charges against her.
