En 2020, la maison de couture installera Porte d’Aubervilliers, entre Paris et la commune située au nord de la capitale, son nouveau pôle dédié aux métiers d’art. Elle réunira ainsi différents corps d’artisans dans une bâtisse de 25 500 mètres carrés, répartis sur cinq niveaux et deux sous-sols.
Le projet a été confié à l’architecte Rudy Ricciotti, qui a fait parler sa créativité sur des projets comme le Mucem de Marseille ou le stade Jean-Bouin à Paris.
“Conçue pour des activités en lien avec la mode, l’organisation verticale du bâtiment permettra de regrouper sur un seul et même site différents métiers d’art de Chanel, tout en préservant leur identité en tant qu’entités indépendantes et autonomes, précise l’entreprise dans un communiqué. Réalisé en béton innovant, il s’érigera sur une exo-structure, une trame élégante appelant l’univers du textile. La conception échancrée du bâtiment permettra d’intégrer souplesse et précision d’aménagement des espaces de travail – ateliers de création et de production – afin d’arrimer les liens, suivre au plus près l’évolution de leurs activités et besoins spécifiques, et de mutualiser les services ainsi que les moyens logistiques”.
Chanel réunit ainsi dans un seul navire des artisans qui évoluent sous la coupole administrative de Paraffection, la filiale de la maison regroupant les métiers d’art comme le plisseur Lognon, le plumassier Lemarié, le bottier Massaro, mais aussi le brodeur Lesage, l’orfèvre Goossens et le chapelier Maison Michel. La maison avait depuis 2012 commencé à installer ses protégés à Pantin et Aubervilliers. Karl Lagerfeld vient d’ailleurs de présenter les travaux de ses équipes métiers d’art à l’occasion d’un défilé à Hambourg.

Chanel has decided to dedicate a space to the many different expert artisans that are showcased every year in its Métiers d’Art show, from plumassiers to jewellers and gold and silversmiths. Architect Rudy Ricciotti has been charged with designing this gem in the North of Paris which is set to open in 2020.
For the past 16 years, Chanel has been celebrating the savoir-faire of its ateliers every season with its Métiers d’Art show, which this year took place in Hamburg, Karl Lagerfeld’s hometown. From the house’s very beginnings, Gabrielle Chanel made sure she surrounded herself with the best artisans for her collections. From plumassiers to jewellers, embroiderers, couturiers, shoemakers and gold and silversmiths, all the crafts that the house has used over the years will now have their own dedicated space in Paris. The news has just broken: Chanel will open a building dedicated to the Métiers d’Art near the Porte d’Aubervilliers in Paris in 2020. The house has called upon Rudy Ricciotti, winner of the 2006 Grand Prix d’architecture and lover of concrete, to design the space that spreads across 25,000m2. Located in the North of Paris, the place will consist of five levels featuring design and production ateliers as well as vast gardens. “This project’s mission is based on a narration of the relationship between technical and knowledgeable complexity of hand crafts, their remarkable virtuosity when applied to design and beauty, and the extremely technological character of my creations. It’s a shared celebration of complexity – the building itself will be extremely complex in its design – and its relationship with expertise.” Stay tuned.
